When the vision for Ferndale Place was first conceived, the goal was clear: to create quality, accessible housing that would serve the growing needs of the Randburg community in Johannesburg. The project was designed to make quality urban living more accessible to local residents.
Developed by GNI Real Estate (Pty) Ltd, the privately owned social housing development comprises 585 residential units across a ground floor and eight upper floors.
Construction began in 2025, bringing together an experienced project team including E2 Architects, Farrow Laing Quantity Surveyors as both Quantity Surveyor and Principal Agent, and Tri-Star Construction as the main contractor.
As with any project of this scale, collaboration was key: Lucy de Villiers from our team at Ironmongery Warehouse became involved during the early specification stages and worked closely with the project team. From product selection, technical guidance and final snags, Lucy helped ensure that the project’s ironmongery requirements were met efficiently and to specification.
With more than 2,400 doors across the development, the ironmongery specification required a careful balance between cost, quality, security and design. The Calini Premium 201 Stainless Steel Econo Lever Handle (IW1224) was selected for its cost-effectiveness, reliability and clean architectural aesthetic. To simplify access management during construction, Ironmongery Warehouse also recommended a construction master key system to eliminate the cost implications associated with lost or stolen keys before project handover.
Our Site Technician, Jessica Jordaan, provided ongoing assistance during the installation process. Regular site engagement and close coordination with contractors helped ensure smooth implementation of all on-site requirements.
Ferndale Place was officially completed in September 2026 and we celebrated this milestone, alongside the construction and partners at the grand opening.
